CSOT’s sixth generation of low-temperature polycrystalline silicon panel project begins construction in Wuhan

On September 16, 2014, the 6generation LTPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon) display panel production line (t3 project) with an investment of RMB 16 billion by CSOT started construction in Wuhan Optical Valley, which is expected to be in mass production by the end of 2016. This is the first production line in China that adopts the world's leading display technology, and also an important measure of strategic layout in the high-end small and medium size panel market. It also features in enhancing the strength of CSOT flat panel display industry in innovative technology and product structure, after TCL’s excellent operating results in the 8.5 generation TFT (amorphous silicon) TV LCD panel project.

The total investment in the Wuhan CSOT project is approximately RMB 16 billion, with products positioned towards the high-end small and medium-size panel market. The design capacity in Phase I is 30,000 pieces/month, with an expected mass production by the end of 2016; after that the annual production of display panels or modules will be about 88 million pieces, which can be achieved with an output of over RMB ten billion.

It is noteworthy that the process involved in thet3 project will mainly adopts LTPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon) technology. As the most mainstream display technology utilized in the high-end smart phone market, LTPS technology has such advantages as high definition, fast response and high brightness; at the same time, CSOT achieves ultra-high definition through its self-developed Hawkeye screen technology - the world's first circular polarized screen technology that can effectively protect eyes -and the unique Sterops energy-saving technology that enables longer standby time for mobile phones. The application of new technologies further enhances the advantages of technological innovation, and to be the first to master the next generation of new display technologies helps to accelerate the upgrade of domestic new flat panel displays.

As the first production line of the 6th generation low-temperature polycrystalline silicon display panel in China, the start of the CSOTt3 project is beneficial to the overall development of the field of LCD panels. Meanwhile, it will further enhance collaborative capabilities in the integration of upstream and downstream industries of TCL Corporation. In addition, the CSOTt3 project will also assume the task of providing a research and development base, making full use of the advantages of the science and technology talent concentration in Wuhan to provide a better foundation for product development and technological innovation. In the innovation and development seminar of strategic new display industry held at the same time as the launching ceremony for the CSOTt3 project, CSOT’s full range of products and technological achievements were exhibited, including– a 110 "Surface UHD screen (the world’s largest), China’s first self-made high color saturation 55 "Curve UHD (QD) curved screen, a 31" large-size AMOLED display, a circular polarized panel and other recent research results, which were recognized by relevant leaders and industry experts.
